actually each product has a different niche. windows messenger can be used like msn messenger, but you find it used more in business enviroments that want users to be able to chat together, but not necessarily online. msn messenger is, well, msn messenger. the new live messenger is what msn messenger will become, but due to the fact that it's a closed beta and has new features, the current protocol is incompatable (well, somewhat) with the current msn protocol, therefore there are two different services. there will be only one in the end, but for now, there are two.

i find it simple really.
