Top 10 Things Mac OS X Gets Right That Linux Distributions Do Not

After just reading Ten Things Linux Distros Get Right That MS Doesn’t, I thought to myself, I could easily come up with a Top 10 Mac vs Linux.
For those who read my blog on a regular basis, know that I am as pro-Linux as they come. However, I have to admit that Mac OS [...]

2007 Resolutions

Today is the day that men reflect on their lives, and decide to make changes, hopefully, for the better. But for me, rather than make some idle promises on goals on stuff that I am not working on (that I most likely won’t do), I’m just going to try and improve on the things [...]

ASCII Ribbon Campaign

I generally don’t join campaigns all too often. In fact, very rarely. Mainly, just for the fact that most of them are just plain silly. Someone is mad at some organization or practice, and they’re trying to make an impact on the web. So, generally, there is a petition to sign, [...]

Perl Versus Ruby on CSV

Ok. I had a little project at work, at which point, I turned to Perl to accomplish the task. The project was simple enough: take a comma-separated file, and look at a few fields to see what data is contained. Based on that data, create a “weight”, and assign the weight to [...]

Happy Holidays

During the Holiday Season, there won’t be a post from me until after the New Year. So, Happy Holidays from Pthree and Firefox 2. I hope that this browser is your default browser. If not, what better way to say “Happy Holidays!” to your family, then to be running a secure browser [...]

Use Vim

With all the Perl programming that I have been doing lately, I need a good editor. GEdit, KWrite and company are OK, but I need something with a bit more umph. The Perl plugin for Eclipse is very nice, but Eclipse is a bit much for what I’m doing with Perl, which is [...]

Dvorak-QWERTY Irssi Script

In #utah on Freenode, there has been some active discussion lately about Dvorak vs. Qwerty. As such, ibot, a channel bot, has the ability to display text when someone enters a channel. Some of the chatters, including myself, have a join that is “encrypted”. Well, not really, per se, but rather, just [...]

Using GeSHi

For those who are unaware, I am using GeSHi as my syntax highlighter for Wordpress. It is a solid program, and well worth the look, if you are looking for something to highlight your code on your blog. It’s licensed under the GPL, and I love it.
One of the strong features in GeSHi, [...]

Optimizing Searches In Perl

So, I needed something to search a string in one text file, and compare it with a string in a second text file. If there is a match, I need to print the results to a new text file. So, because I’m new to Perl, but have a programming background, I figured this [...]

“We’re Going In A New Direction”

Looking back at the archives of this blog, it’s overall theme and vibrancy has changed throughout the months, and honestly, I don’t like where it’s landed. So, this blog is taking a new turn and revisiting it’s roots.
The initial reason this blog was put up, back in September 2005, was to provide an archive [...]

Secure Passphrases

I just read Christer’s post about creating secure passwords using a simple Linux utility ‘pwgen’. Good read, and even better tutorial. However, I hope you don’t mind a bit Christer, but I’m going to pick on your post a little.
pwgen creates 8-character random passwords. Using the various options, you can increase/decrease the [...]

USB2 and IEEE1394

UPDATE: When typing this post, I must have been on something, because I know that the speed of USB2 is 480Mbps while IEEE1394 is 400Mbps. So, theoretically, USB2 should be the faster connection. However, I have always heard that IEEE1394 is faster in practice. Looking back at my experiences, USB2 has [...]

Blog Updated- New Theme Installed

Monochrome, lightweight, and totally liquid. Comments fixed on the pages, lean CSS, designed with standards, no intensive images and a dark background with light text, so no more looking into a lightbulb as you read my blog. This is definitely the Wordpress theme for me. I love it love it love it!
You [...]

Theme Changing Time

Pardon my dust while I change my Wordpress theme. I’m looking for something with an overall dark theme, light text and wide. We’ll see what turns up.

Gmail- Grrrrr

I want IMAP with Gmail. It’s ridiculous that this hasn’t been offered yet. I understand that IMAP takes a folder approach, where as Gmail is using labels, but given the developers and cutting edge software they release, this shouldn’t hold them up.
I’m not in a good mood right now.
