Why Blog? Because Your Congressman Might Contact You Directly

Guess who I just got off the phone with? Well, if you read my blog, and read my last post, I bet you can take a good guess. At 20:23 pm, just 1 hour ago, I got off the phone with Rob Bishop, my congressional representative.
First off, I would like to thank Congressman [...]

Fundamentalist Fanaticism

Fundamentalism: Movement or attitude stressing strict and literal adherence to a set of basic principles.
Fanatic: An emotion of being filled with excessive, uncritical zeal, particularly for an extreme religious or political cause, or with an obsessive enthusiasm for a pastime or hobby.
You can call me a fundamentalist fanatic when it comes to music, online radio [...]

MacBook Pro or ThinkPad T61

I’m in need of a new laptop, and I’m struggling deciding which to purchase- the Apple MacBook Pro or the Lenovo ThinkPad T61. So, I’m looking to my readers for some help. Here are the pros and cons that I have outlined of each:

Lenovo Thinkpad T61:
Pros:

Impressive hardware, built like a tank.
801.11 a/b/g/n built [...]

Symbols

Lately, I’ve been paying special attention to logos and symbols. I don’t know why, but the Ubuntu logo caught my eye in a way that I haven’t thought of before. Am I reading too much into this, or is there something more behind that friendly logo of ours?

Dear Qwest

Starting today, you’ll have more bandwidth opened up on your phone lines as I will no longer be a paying customer. You see, I’ve saved a bunch of money on my phone service by switching to Vonage. You just aren’t providing the “Spirit of Service” that you seem to advertise so well. [...]

Our Leader Responds

For those of you who don’t syndicate Planet Ubuntu, and you’re an Ubuntu user, you may have missed a very valuable post.
Mark Shuttleworth firmly places his stance on Microsoft and supposed patent infringement.
The result is this: Canonical/Ubuntu will NOT be holding any negotiations with Microsoft in regards to patent protection. He said it most [...]

Pact With The Devil

Well, apparently Linspire likes playing with Tarot cards and Ouija boards, because it just made a similar pact with the Devil like Xandros and Novell before it. TechChrunch has a writeup.
My concern is this. While I’m not worried in the least of Microsoft and it’s apparent Kill Linux agenda, I am worried about [...]

Please, Publish FULL Feeds

Nothing is more annoying, then finding a great site, with solid content, only to syndicate their RSS feed, and see the oh-so-very-annoying “More…” link after 1/2 way through the 2nd sentence.
Here’s the thing. The reason I am syndicating your feed, and the reason most others are too, is so I don’t have to visit [...]

Firefox & Deer Park Browser Logos

Take a good look at those two images. Someone, for the love of everything good and holy, please explain to me what part of the Earth that is supposed to represent. Oh. It’s not supposed to represent Earth? Then, why spend the time getting some design to represent land and water, [...]

Splogs

There have been some dust storms lately about a splog (nixforce.com) reproducing Planet Debian and Planet Ubuntu content, and probably others, without obeying the author licenses that the content is being written under. DMCA notices have been issued, and Google notified for improper use of ads on their site. I personally have emailed [...]

OpenID Enabled

It was important for me to get my site OpenID enabled, for those who would like to use it. I don’t force users to register an account on my blog to comment, so enabling OpenID on my blog might seem a bit silly. However, for those who would like to use their OpenID [...]

29 And Holding

from datetime import date

birth_day = date(1977, 6, 9)
right_now = date.today()

if (right_now.month >= birth_day.month) & (right_now.day >= birth_day.day):
age = right_now.year - birth_day.year
else:
age = right_now.year - birth_day.year - 1

if age >= 30:
age = 29

OpenID Delegation

Here I am sitting at my workstation coding away, when all of the sudden, a thought enters my mind:
Can I setup my own OpenID server?
I pull open my terminal, and ‘aptitude search openid’ in Ubuntu. I see two packages with ‘openid’ in the name, one a consumer package, the other a server package. [...]

Movable Type 4.0 Beta Released

I’m 3 days behind in pushing out this news, however, after getting my daily dose of Technorati, and seeing all the posts about Movable Type going GPL with version 4, I had to comment.
First off, I am excited to see Movable Type get back on its feet with respect to the community. It’s history [...]

RSS In Plain English

The people over at commoncraft.com have whipped up a video for explaining RSS in plain English. Although I am already familiar with the technology, and even the differences between Atom and RSS, I still enjoyed the video. I could find this handy to show to my parents or siblings, as when I try [...]
