Yesterday, I acquired a Sun Microsystems UltraSparc 10. What was the first thing I did? Put Linux on it of course. Debian Etch was the ultimate decision. Why not Ubuntu? I already have Dapper Drake powering my main server, so I thought I’d give Etch a try as a server, and see where we go from there. Keep it fresh.
I haven’t found a real use for it yet, although it will definitely be a server of some sort. At this point, I have 2 Ubuntu Gutsy workstations, 1 Ubuntu Dapper server, 1 Debian sid workstation and 1 Debian Etch server (not to mention my wife’s iBook powering OS X).
Lastly, to add to my diabolical scheme of throwing Greek gods into hell, Helios (should be obvious why this name): welcome to Hades!

Maybe its just me, but If I ever got my hands on an older sun system I’d be tempted to give open solaris a try on it. Especially if I didn’t have a good purpose in mind for it
What do you use the massive amount of computing power that you’ve got sitting around for? You’ve got 3 servers listed now, plus 4 workstations (by which I assume you mean desktops?)
Unless some of these are work related, my mind boggles at what you’re using them all for. Hell, the one headless box I’ve got spends most of its time idle and several people have access to it.
@Corey- I thought about that, but all the OpenSolaris implementations that I can find are still rough beta or alpha quality. Not that I’m running anything mission critical on the box, but I would like stability and dependability.
@woot- Right now, it’s more for education and research. I’m curious what I *can* do with an Ultra 10 running Linux, and where it’s boundaries are. My main server as well sits idle 90% of the time. But what’s the point of being an geek if you can’t have all the toys to play with? The more the merrier.
