About Akismet: While its *client* certainly is GPLed, its core couldn&#039;t be further removed from the spirit of GPL. Not only do you not have the code for the server-side, but you don&#039;t even have any idea what happens there... 
&quot;Security through obscurity&quot; is indeed the point of Akismet... It&#039;s hardly the way open-source works, though...
