I run into a somewhat similar situation. Installed Ubuntu Hardy on a server and ended up with LILO because the boot folder was on LVM. I had no idea about the reason at the time, but it worked so I didn&#039;t care much (it would be great if the installer actually warned you that it falls back to LILO and why).

A few kernel updates later I started getting strange warnings, and eventually the system would not start up anymore. The only way to boot was by selecting an older kernel. Bad LILO.

Did you figure how to install GRUB 2?</description>
