Last night, while on IRC, maquis and I got into a brief discussion about how many OSS groups there are in Utah. Surprisingly enough, there a quite a few. So, I decidid to compile a list in abbreviated alphabetical order pointing to each and every page. Thanks to maquis and herlo for helping me out.
- BYU UUG- BYU Unix Users Group
- BYU RUG- BYU Ruby Users Group
- FSLC- Free Software and Linux Club
- GUBUG- Greater Utah BSD Users Group
- OALUG- Ogden Area Linux Users Group
- Perl Mongers- Northern Utah Perl Mongers
- PLUG- Provo Linux Users Group
- SLLUG- Salt Lake Linux Users Group
- SU3G- Southern Utah Unix Users Group
- TVLUG- Tooele Valley Linux Users Group
- Ubuntu-Utah- Ubuntu-Utah Users Group
- UPHPU- Utah PHP Users Group
- URUG- Utah Ruby Users Group
- UTAUG- Utah Asterisk Users Group
- UTGTUG- Utah Gentoo Users Group
- UTOS- Utah Open Source
- Utah Python- Utah Python Users Group
- UVLUG- Utah Valley Linux Users Group
This is a pretty complete list. Of course there are many other technical based groups in Utah that may debated as to whether or not they can be considered an OSS group, such as:
- NUNUG- Northern Utah .NET Users Group
- UCNUG- Utah County .NET Users Group
- UCS- Utah Computer Society
- UJUG- Utah Java Users Group
- UMUG- Utah Macintosh Users Group
- UTAHDNUG- Utah Professional .NET Users Group
- UTOUG- Utah Oracle Users Group
- UTWAA- Utah Windows Admins Anonymous
One thing that I have noticed about the Utah groups, is there are general groups, such as the Linux groups, and there are specific groups such as Perl Mongers and UPHPU. However, I think there is still plenty of room for more groups, although one might call into question “why create more?” For example, an OSS SQL based group, such as MySQL or PostgreSQL could exist, yet I am surprised that it doesn’t, even though an Oracle based group does.
In any event, if I have missed any groups or you want yours included, please let me know.
