Knoppix: How Do I Love Thee?

Let me count the ways...

Again, you have saved my laptop from certain death again, when the Ubuntu Live CD, and many others, would not boot. How can I show my appreciation? Thank you yet again from a very satisfied user!

    Same story but in Arabic

Formating HD

    الشكر الجزيل لفريق أبونتو
    Thanks Ubuntu Team

The Ubuntu Development Team would like to hear the technical details of any system where the Ubuntu desktop CD doesn't boot, but Knoppix does.

(did you try safe graphics mode?)

Matt- I sent you an email describing the issues at hand that I was having. Basically, the thermal processor on the mobo has gone out, and booting into my laptop would display the error "critical CPU temerature reached. shutting down". Regardless of booting into safe mode, or not, the error was the same.

The Ubuntu LiveCD would freeze upon boot, and never resolve, regardless of how many times I tried. I grabbed a Knoppix CD, and it booted just fine, at which point I edited my /boot/grub/menu.lst and added 'acpi=off' as a kernel option. From there, I was able to boot from the HDD just fine.
