July 4th, 1776 marked the severance from Great Britain and announcing that the 13 colonies were now independent of the crown. The Declaration of Independence was the document that announced our freedom and is one of the founding documents of this great nation. Other founding documents include the Articles of Confederation, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Today, I've made it a goal to read these founding documents, and I extend an invitation to all United States residents to do the same. In doing this, I hope to become more familiar with the rights given to all U.S. citizens and the powers of government. You can find text versions of these documents below:
