Happy Independence Day United States

July 4th, 1776 marked the severance from Great Britain and announcing that the 13 colonies were now independent of the crown. The Declaration of Independence was the document that announced our freedom and is one of the founding documents of this great nation. Other founding documents include the Articles of Confederation, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Today, I've made it a goal to read these founding documents, and I extend an invitation to all United States residents to do the same. In doing this, I hope to become more familiar with the rights given to all U.S. citizens and the powers of government. You can find text versions of these documents below:

Declaration of Independence
United States Constitution
Bill of Rights

Happy 4th of July.

I hope to become more familiar with the rights given to all U.S. citizens and the powers of government.

You mean the rights that were given to us 231 years ago. Most have since been taken from us one way or the other. And just think, I spent 8 years of my life so-called defending this country. The best 8 years of my life, but at times it feels like it was useless and a waste :(

Happy 4th though! Napervill Ribfest had George Thorogood on Saturday, Heart last night, and tonight they have the Marshall Tucker Band! Great ribs, good beer, and excellent music!

Have fun, be safe, and enjoy!

Karl- Nope, but good luck on that.

Donnie- Is it difficult for you to read?

nixternal- BBQ, rock music and fireworks. Sounds like a kickin' 4th!

Not difficult, just annoying - in that it distracted from your message. But then again today is a day to celebrate our right to annoy!

American "Independence" is one of the many Frauds perpetrated on "We The People" by The Matrix:

@angela: Just because you write fact before a statement doesn't make it true.

Secondly, I seem to recall the catholic church wasn't even founded until well into the 4th century by Constantine, Christianity wasn't accepted in Britain until the fifth century, so stfu and stop trolling. At least my post was funny ;P
